Venom (2005)

Director: Jim Gillespie
Writer: Flint Dille & John Zuur Platten
I’m not 100% sure why and when I rented this from Tesco DVD rental but it arrived and I watched it…and was overwhelming drawn to the fact that horror films are GENERALLY very generic. They feature the same story plot, the same characters, the same locations and the only real difference is the type of killer. For example, in Venom it was a dead man possessed by the souls of hundreds of killers, in Scream, well in Scream it was just psychopaths and loads of them. You get my point.
The film wasn’t all that bad. It left the ending open just in case someone wanted to make another hugely generic sequel (and remember kids Scream was a trilogy not sequels!?!). Don’t get me wrong, I like horror films and my film collection shows that, it’s just…some are just repeats of a tired narrative. They need some innovative ideas and to get rid of the brainless, no-surnamed teenagers who just scream when they should be running.
Altogether, the film wasn’t bad and I did kind of get into it a bit.
5/10
